Program Presenter: Melanie McComb, Senior Genealogist, assists library visitors, both on-site and online, with their family history research. She is an international lecturer who teaches on a variety of topics. Melanie holds a B.S. degree from the State University of New York at Oswego. She previously served as the social media coordinator for the NextGen Genealogy Network, a non-profit that creates a community for younger genealogists, where she managed the Facebook and Twitter accounts. She continues her interest in helping younger genealogists get involved at American Ancestors by assisting with educational programs from local schools, scout groups, and universities. Her areas of expertise include Irish genealogy, DNA, Atlantic Canada, Jewish genealogy, and military records.

Our online accessible collections cover a wide range of genealogical records from the 17th to 21st century and span geographic locations from New England, the rest of the United States, as well as Canada and Europe. RAGS TO WITCHES - MY ANCESTOR & THE 17th CENTURY
NEW ENGLAND WITCH HYSTERIA
Date & Time: Tuesday, June 11, 2024, 6:30 p.m. local WI time.

Program Presenter: David Bradford, is a UW grad with degrees in medicine and business who speaks regionally to history and genealogy groups about technology and medical topics. He has been a member of the Rock County Genealogical Society and the Sheboygan County Historical Research Center for more than 30 years, and has served board chairperson and secretary of the RCGS. He is currently the long term webmaster for the Society.
Program Summary: Dave will explore the community witch hysteria and social panic that infected New England Colonial America, with emphasis on Connecticut and Massachusetts Bay Colonies, including the notorious Salem Village (now Danver, MA). Dave traces his family's connection to witch trials, and then, using selected witch trials between 1647 and 1697, discusses the likely root causes of the hysteria, the peculiarities in the Colonial legal system, various "witch tests", the kinds of punishments meted out to Colonial transgressors, the factors that lead to the end of the trials, and modern-day exoneration efforts.

SEPTEMBER 2024 - PROGRAM
WALKING TOUR OF MILTON JUNCTION CEMETERY
with Emphasis on Civil War History
Date & Time: Saturday, September 14, 2024, 2:00 p.m. local WI time.
Cost: Free and open to the public.
Location: Join us at the Milton Junction Cemetery (formerly Rose Hill Cemetery), 41 N. John Paul Rd., Milton, WI (map).
Program Presenter: Rod Hilton is a local Milton historian and Social Science teacher at Milton High School for 33 years. Rod and his wife have a passion for cataloging the graves of local Civil War soldiers, researching their backstories, and sharing their findings, so that these soldiers' lives and sacrifices are not forgotten.
Program Summary: Weather allowing, Rod will lead a walking tour of Milton Junction Cemetery, trace the cemetery's history and emphasize the lives, military service, and burials of Milton's veterans. The cemetery is fairly flat, but attendees are advised to wear shoes suitable for hiking and to dress for Wisconsin's ever-changing weather. .
How to Attend: This is a live cemetery walk - to attend, you must visit the cemetery at the time and on the date above. There is no simultaneous or recorded Zoom for this program.
